In the past year I went from going full brakes, to no brakes, to just a straight cable with a rear brake. Although I still ride full brakes with my flatland bike, I prefer the straight cable for street. While riding brakeless did help my lines, I simply love rear wheel tricks that require a brake - like abubacas and fufanus.
Something else I've also discovered about myself is I truly enjoy riding solo. While riding with friends is absolutely a blast, I find that more of a social thing. I go out for 4-5 hours, working on tricks, trying to think of creative ways to do things.
I don't have the nerves to go big. I suck at park, jumps and ramps in general. I also kinda suck at flatland - my tricks are mid-school, at best. I can't barspin or any of the other new'ish stuff you see on videos today. So, I've found my little niche - a niche of weird, small riding using things in the environment to be as creative as possible. Half the stuff I film doesn't ever make it to the web because it's just so ridiculous and pretty ugly - but there's not harm in trying. I sit and stare at street objects for 20 minutes sometimes, trying to figure something odd out to try.
Anyway, here it is. 1 year and a few months. Here is my self-edit from last year: LINK
